I promised myself I’d post 2 songs today, so here we go .. another in a long line of sun-centric compositions of mine!

I’m branching out with the keyboards & cello, I nearly didn’t put any guitar on this one, and the acoustic is wayy down in the mix.

This is slightly unfinished too, but it’s a bit more polished and also NEW. Also, don’t forget to subscribe to my Gigs Calendar RSS feed or Podcast.

Unfortunately, my recording studio may be in jeopardy because I seem to have lost some data to a failing hard drive! This is a slow-motion crisis that is terrifying me, so I’ve decided to preempt disaster by backing everything up now. I’ve lost time on that this week — when I should have been helping Valentine Xavier finish off a couple of tracks, sorry Bryan!

About “Crystallized.” The biggest change I’ve made to this is a reorganization of the cello and piano parts as well as the addition of a bass organ (but I’m thinking about reworking that with a bass guitar).

As far as the back-up process goes, thanks Amahi! I’m using a Greyhole storage pool to keep a Crashplan backup redundant, but I’ll also backup (with Crashplan) to a simple external hard drive and possibly to my brother’s servers.

Credit, where it’s due: I once played a show with a girl who called herself “Rebecca Sometimes.” She gave me a CD of her’s and I took a liking to a song she had called “In June.” That song partly inspired what happened here, but it’s still pretty different. I was hoping (once upon a time) to use a melody like she did. Instead I ended up with this, it’s actually not a similar melody at all, but it was related to the plan.

I recorded this in my basement, it’ll change before it’s READY… whatever that means.

What did I do there? I’m in the process of loading more music data into the various music / discography pages (like the last album I did w/ Greg, Short Fiction), plus I was twiddling with the image display JavsaScript on the Photos page.

That last part reminded me that I’ve been meaning (as paraphrased by a co-worker of mine) to “give back to the community” and start posting some of my code projects and experiments, in the hopes that they might prove useful to whoever stumbles upon them (no pun intended).

So, I’d like to start writing posts that occasionally veer from music into the geekiest of geekdoms, computer programming. Some of my latest passions include: MythTV, Amahi, Linux-DAWs (sort of music-related), Object-Oriented JavaScript, Prototype stuff, CSS (like tons of it), browsers stuff, and who knows what…

I’ll continue to make music posts as well, though, so don’t be afraid.. unless being afraid makes you feel better.

This is a recording of a song that I’m working on.  It’s basically done, but I may change the mix a bit.  Let me know what you think

More is coming, though, so don’t think that I haven’t forgotten about downloads, albums, demos and other random junk.

I’ve also spent some time adding old shows to the archive on the same page.  I’m working on a couple of new songs, but I’m not sure when I’ll be playing them.  Hopefully at Lilly’s on the 25th.

I have recently recorded three new songs, or, I should say… I recently made three new recordings of older songs, in this order:
1. Warming He Who Walks (who knows these songs anyway?)
2. Won’t You Call It Off? (I think Adam Stratton likes this one)
3. My Two Weeks on Automatic Pilot (it’s not what you think, or is it?)

I am feeling verbose at present, should I have chosen to explain these songs I might have said something like this instead:

1. Warming He Who Walks (alone. Those who walk alone need the warmth of the blanket of stars to keep them warm. Generally, they have it … I did.)
2. Won’t You Call It Off? (Maybe I am still in love with her… I doubt it. I exaggerated my feelings to the point of ridiculousness and extracted a sentiment of sentimentality to hold on to. Isn’t that just like memory?)
3. My Two Weeks on Automatic Pilot (I’m pretty sure that I’m not in love with her anymore either. The Kurt Vonnegut-inspired title that describes the last 14 days of a relationship, isn’t it like that? who’s to say that it isn’t or never has been?)
